EXPERIMENTAL COLLABORATION
Sound by: Geoffrey Datson Directed by: Nicholas Nedelkopoulos Datson is a sound artist whose recordings collage spoken word, electronica and instrumentation. The DRIVEBY is a synthesis of all these forms of sonic expression in which the voice and the sound field are interdependent. Loosley couched in the format of a ‘radio show’, one that you might hear late at night amid the static of the airwaves, The Datson Driveby is a broadcast from the subconscious, Composed of shatches of memory, poetry, song, music and found-sound, gleaned from his long practice as an audio artist, the Drive-by is a sonic collage of myth, metaphor and mummery. Nedelkopoulos is well known as a visual artist for his painting and printmaking, as well as for making experimental films - some from way back in the deep dark distant analogue past. His films become a visual representation of that ‘static’ from which the sound emerges. The predominantly black and white films become a grainy, visual white 'noise'. The stark beauty of the ebb and flow of his imagery is mesmerising in its simplicity and perfectly compliments Datson’s soundscapes - while the eye is busy, bequiled by the patterning of the moving image, the mind can concentrate and focus on the sountrack.
